Facilitator: Rebecca Townsend, Professor of Communication, University of Hartford, will invite attendees to discuss and provide input on their ‘hopes and fears’ surrounding AVs over the lunch session.

 

1:30 – 2:30   PANEL 3–AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE

Discussion of the broad societal impacts of emerging transportation technologies, moderated by Norman Garrick, Co-Director of TTS Research Group.

Speakers: Peter Norton, Associate Professor, Engineering & Society, University of Virginia; Kris Carter, Co-Chair of the Mayor’s Office of New Urban Mechanics, Boston, Massachusetts.

 

2:30 – 3:45   TOWN HALL SESSION

The session will begin with a summary of the ‘hopes and fears’ raised by Symposium participants and then move into an interactive session moderated by NPR Connecticut’s Lucy Nalpathanchil (Host of Where We Live). The topic of discussion with Carol Atkinson-Palombo, Adam Blank, and Jackie Lightfield–all of whom are members of the State of Connecticut’s Task Force on AVs–will be the factors that need to be considered in Connecticut’s formulation of policies to regulate AVs.
